Whimsical Equine Rescue, Inc. is a Sussex County, Delaware charitable organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and finding homes for abused, slaughter bound, neglected and forgotten horses.  These horses are rescued from a variety of sources.  While Whimsical does not own property, we are currently renting a 7.5 acre site in Laurel.  We also rent additional space at a site in Roxana  and Hardscrabble to help house the rescued horses.  Adopters are carefully screened and commit to care for the balance of his life or they must return it to Whimsical.  The horse can never be sold or given away. 

Whimsical acquired tax exempt status - 501(c)(3) - in 2005.  Funds for the rescue come from donations, adoptions, grants and fundraising events.  Our need for funding assistance is acute, as rescuing a single healthy horse can easily exceed $900.00. An unhealthy horse can require up to $350.00 per month for medications and veterinary care.

We are dedicated to improving the lives of the magnificent horses we rescue, as well as the families who adopt them.  The exhaustive labor of our small group and ever expanding circle of volunteers is well rewarded by the knowledge that these horses are safe.
